Not many would say their ideal spring break would be spent in a hospital surgery room.

But for Lauren Deveraux saying it was the best place for her, truly tells you a lot about this all state athlete.

"sSpring break Omaha" was the theme at this weekends benefit for Lauren and her family.

The Newell-Fonda High School senior spent her spring break receiving a new heart and is now on her way to recovery.

It wasn't just the estimated 2,000 community members that were expected to show.

But the support for this all state athlete, showing that sometimes accepting a challenge is another form of victory.

"Unbelievable. I said to live in a small town is awesome. The support from both our communities Newell and Fonda to come together this has been incredible and to see the number of people that she has touch in her short life." Said Melissa and Dennis Devereaux, Lauren's parents.

The condition of Lauren's health is progressing but still very sensitive.

She made it to her event but only for a short period of time.

"There are so many people in there. I'm so happy they are supporting me and I just can't thank them anymore for what they are doing for me." Said Lauren.

It's a life so fragile, Lauren would say it's a miracle to still be here celebrating it.

$40,000 was raised at the event.

All proceeds will go to the family to help with medical bills and contribute to a fund that has been made in Lauren's name.
