A Norfolk, NE man is dead, and toxic fumes at a grain elevator may be to blame.

Officers responded to the Stanton Coop around 9:30 Friday morning.

That's where they found an employee, 67 year-old Donald Stodola, dead inside an enclosed pit.

A second employee, 58 year-old Gary Carson, was found nearly unconscious.

It's believed both men were overcome by invisible toxic gases that had built up inside the pit.

One of the first responders was also treated at the scene for exposure to the unknown fumes.
