The group looking to build a new casino in Siouxland is heading to Las Vegas to begin work with a design team.
But before the first hand is dealt in Lyon County, some concerns still need to be addressed. The Lyon County Board of Supervisors met Monday to discuss the first step to bringing a potential new casino in the area.
Dan Kehl, CEO of Kehl Management in Riverside, Iowa, presented the Lyon County Board of Supervisors with an update on plans for a new casino and golf resort just outside of Larchwood, Iowa.
Kehl says not only will this project create more marketing, gaming and construction jobs, it will also provide quality entertainment to Iowa and surrounding states.
Kehl says, "It'll be a Las Vegas quality resort. That's kind of where we're heading with it all. It's definitely going to be something that everyone in Iowa can be proud of."
Although the Board agrees that the casino will add excitement and employment to the area, supervisors have a few concerns of their own regarding morality in the region.
Lyon County Supervisor, Randy Bosch, says, "There's gonna be a portion of the population that's gonna be affected by the gaming industry and its proximity to Lyon County."
Kehl says right now, his company is working on rezoning the casino location and getting an official license from the gaming commission. He says once that is done, he'll deal with other concerns Lyon County supervisors may have.
One of the biggest concerns supervisors had with this development was that of finances, but Kehl says with a Dubuque bank leading in financial aid, he's confident money challenges will be met. The total estimated cost of the project is $110 million, with Heartland Bank out of Dubuque providing $25 to $35 million.
