Associated Press - August 28, 2009 6:25 AM ET

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Nebraska State Fair officials will be passing out kazoos to prospective members of the first-ever State Fair Celebration Kazoo Band.

The first 1,000 people through the gates at State Fair Park on opening day Friday will be given kazoos. The gates open at 5 p.m.

The 1,000 will be invited to gather at 6 p.m. to perform the Nebraska State Fair jingle during opening ceremonies.

The 2009 fair - the last at State Fair Park - runs through Labor Day, Sept. 7.

The fair moves next year to Grand Island, clearing the way for the University of Nebraska to build a high-tech research and development park on Lincoln fairgrounds.
