A Siouxland man is being charged with homicide following a car accident that claimed the life of his 10 year-old son.

Mathew Wrather, 39, of Rembrandt, Iowa is charged with three felony counts; homicide by motor vehicle, serious injury by motor vehicle and child endangerment.

In late July Wrather and his son, Gavin, were driving on Highway 71 when he crossed the center line and hit a van head on.

Gavin, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead.

The van's driver and Mathew were both hospitalized.

It was later discovered that Mathew was driving while intoxicated, with a suspended license, with a fradulent registration, and had no insurance.
