The third time's a charm, at least that's the hope for Republican, Bob Vander Plaats as he runs for Iowa governor. He and his campaign team met up with many supporters in his hometown of Sheldon, Iowa today, but some of them had one primary concern.
Does vander plaats have enough experience to serve the state of Iowa as governor? Vander Plaats believes he has more than enough to get the job done.
Vander Plaats says, "I think what people are looking for today is real life leadership, real life experience with real life results that can be backed up with a record, and I have that. I have it in education, I have it in healthcare, I have it in human services, I have it in business and industry."
Vander Plaats' wife, says she too, thinks he's beyond ready to serve the state of Iowa in this way. She says his qualifications come from all the years he's spent preparing for this role.
Darla Vander Plaats says, "It's been growing in him for a long time. Obviously, you know, he had a lot of hurdles to jump to make it become a reality but it's very much been an interest."
Other supporters believe his knowledge and leadership skills stem all the way back from his childhood.
Supporter, Grant VanDebrake, says, "I knew him from probably 11 years old, on. I was a leader in the Boys Club that he was a part of and he was a leader then, already."
Some of those who are doubtful of his success, do agree on his strong conservative ties, and the issues he stands by like same sex marriage, pro-life, as well as faith-based and moral implementations.
Aside from these issues, Vander Plaats says he's incredibly passionate about opening up Iowa for business. He plans on doing this by not raising taxes and employing a competitive tax and regulatory structure.
Also expected to announce his bid for governor is politician, Christopher Rants of Sioux City, Iowa.
