After being wiped out by a devastating fire last year, the new Moville grocery store is set to be up and running in just a couple weeks. It's all becoming a reality thanks to donations from the community and a decision the Woodbury County Board of Supervisors reached today.
The Woodbury County Board of Supervisors are helping fund the new grocery store with a check of $10,000.
For a year, Moville residents have been grocery shopping miles away from home all while raising money to rebuild the grocery store they lost last year.
Committee member, Stee Maxwell, says, "It's been a very community-wide effort. A lot of fundraisers from different organizations from churches, to 4-H...everybody's been wanting to have this back."
And in just a few short weeks, folks in Moville will have their grocery store back in town, thanks to their efforts and Woodbury County's decision.
Some supervisors say after speaking to the community, they knew they had to help out somehow.
Supervisor, Mark Monson, says, "It's been a real strain to have to come to either Sioux City, Kingsley, somewhere north or way west to get what they need. The convenience is overwhelming. Plus, it keeps people in the community and creates jobs out there."
Approximately $20,000 still needs to be raised, but committee members say with the help of Woodbury County, they're confident they'll get there soon.
Chet and Lynn Davis who currently own the grocery store in Kingsley, Iowa, have stepped forward with the help of their daughter, Shannon, to run this new grocery store the Moville community has been waiting so long for.
Committee members gave the estimated date of October 15th that the new store would be open to the public.
