CORRECTIONVILLE, Iowa (KCAU-TV)-- Another Siouxland community is left without a grocery store following an early morning fire.

Valley Grocery, the only variety store in Correctionville, sits partially ruined from smoke and water damage after what rescue crews say was an electrical fire.

The fire department spent all morning fighting the blaze.

"It was about 4:30 this morning when we got dispatched out here, spent about 4 hours on scene," said Cindy Belson of the Correctionville Fire Department. "We saw a bunch of smoke coming out of the back side of the building, not really any flames or anything. Made an entrance and attacked it from the back."

Although the fire was primarily contained in the back stock room, the owner of grocery stoire says he has still experienced quite a loss.

"I have lost a lot of money and I am upset," said owner Jasi Singh.

Amid his frustrations though, he's positive he and workers can recover most of their store and have it back up and running soon.

Most of the people Channel 9 talked to said they'll do their shopping in Sioux City for now. That's because the nearby town of Moville is still without a grocery store after a fire destroyed the town's inly one last year.

Meanwhile, officials in Moville hope to have the new grocery store up and running by October 15th.
