They're faces that don't say a thing, but their message is being heard loud and clear.

To recognize October as Domestic Violence Awareness month, a local organization is trying to put the issue into focus using photos of survivors

The Iowa Voices Project has made its way to Southern Hills Mall. The photo exhibit displays 31 photographs with 31 stories, all domestic violence survivors from Iowa.

The traveling exhibit that was started by domestic violence survivor Katie Thompson. Her mission is to reach out to all those affected and celebrate survivors.

"I got a lot of help from the women's shelter up in my part of Iowa," says Thompson. "After lots and lots of counseling, I felt like I was on my feet again and thought I could do something useful."

The photos show people of different ages, races and even gender. Next to the photos are stories from the survivors, sharing their painful past and helping those in need.

"Somebody has to be a voice for those that are voiceless and I know that is hard for a lot of people so I want to take the risk and be helpful to them if you can help just one person that that makes it worth it," says Robyn Leiber of Sioux City.

The exhibit makes its way all across Iowa in an attempt to not only to bring awareness but hoping to help put an end to domestic violence.

The exhibit will be on display at Southern Hills Mall through Friday.
