After several weeks of waiting, the H1N1 vaccine is finally making it's way to at least one area school.
Starting Wednesday, the Westwood School District in Sloan, IA will be the first in Woodbury county to offer the H1N1 vaccine.
Permission slips were handed out last week and already half the student body plans to get vaccinated.
The school was actually chosen by Siouxland District Health, that's because it's been able to ward off an outbreak of the virus so far.
Attendance at the districts schools has typically been around 96% but a recent drop sent the school into action.
"We've seen our numbers go down to 9%2 or 93% but its back up again. We're doing a good job, but its only a matter of time before an outbreak would hit us, so we're taking the proper steps to avoid it." Says District Superintendent Kirk Ahrends.
The clinic is this Wednesday at the school gymnasium. School will start two hours late and the clinic will start at approximately 10:30 am.
The vaccine is optional for Westwood students, but only students who go to school there can get one.
So far, of the district's 625 students- 300 will be receiving the vaccine.
