Six men in Hawarden Iowa have been volunteering the past two years to send wheel chair-like vehicles to those in need.

They're called PET's or Personal Energy Transportation.

These volunteers like to say they are building wheelchairs that can go places that typical wheelchairs can't go.

They are built with thicker tires, and run by hand cranks they're sent to Third World Countries to assist people that either don't have legs, or whose legs aren't functional.

"Most of our victims are landmines people, the lucky ones of course don't live, but the others have to survive someway, their families are really hard pressed, they have to carry the people or drag them." said Project Manager, Leo Anderson

Thinking about the struggles these people go through motivates these men to meet everyday of the week.

They can produce up to two pets a day, and with every pet, they pack the boxes full of donated clothes.

The Hawarden men are the only group in Iowa to work on this project, but across the country there are 14 other pet affiliates, and the group hopes to double that amount in the next five years.

The organization is strictly volunteer, the pets are made from donated materials.
