As budget cuts threaten to take more law enforcement off Iowa's roads, a new report shows they're saving more lives.
The number of traffic deaths has dropped this year. Up to the end of October, 300 people have died in Iowa traffic accidents.

Law enforcement has been making more arrests for drunken driving and seat belt violations by targeting high-crash areas.
Even so, the Department of Public Safety has proposed laying off 20 state troopers to meet spending cuts.
