Deb Smith and Denise Wilson will serve as co-chairs for the 12th annual June E. Nylen Cancer Center Winter Benefit, to be held Saturday, February 6, 2010, at the Marina Inn, South Sioux City, Nebraska.
Smith and Wilson have served on the committee for the June E. Nylen Cancer Center's Winter Benefit for several years and were selected to chair the signature event for 2010.
"Deb and Denise bring with them many talents which include a passion for volunteering and raising money that helps cancer patients," says Pat Hubbard, director of fund development.
The Winter Benefit carries a theme of Stars and Angels Among Us and is the biggest annual fundraising event for the Cancer Center, raising more than $200,000 last year.
"Serving as a co-chair provides the honor of working with a great group of dedicated volunteers and staff to help make the lives of those impacted by this horrible disease a bit better. Cancer touches everyone's lives, serving as the co-chair, gives me an opportunity to give back to this community," says Deb Smith. "I know that everyone on the committee has been touched by cancer in some way and we all simply want to help those currently fighting the battle."
In addition to serving on the Community Advisory Board of the June E. Nylen Cancer Center, Smith serves on the boards of CSADV (Council on Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence) and Camp High Hopes. She also volunteers at Whittier school.
"I have volunteered on the committee for three years and when the opportunity was presented to me to serve as co-chair I realized I wanted to give more to the patients at the Cancer Center," says Denise Wilson. "I feel I am playing a significant role in raising funds to help save lives of those battling this terrible disease."
Wilson is employed as a loan officer with the Siouxland Economic Development Corporation and assists small business owners in realizing their dreams of owning a business. In her spare time she enjoys movies, concerts and golf.
Funds raised from this year's benefit will be directed to the mammogram and colonoscopy fund which pays for these necessary screenings for the under served and underinsured.
Corporate sponsors are being asked to help support the event. For more information, please call Pat Hubbard, Director of Fund Development and 712.252.9352.
