Saturday was National Adoption Day, and at the Woodbury County Courthouse hundreds gathered to celebrate the event for the first time.
For ten years now, Adoption Day has grown in popularity being celebrated at more and more Court Houses across the country.
This year Woodbury county opened their doors for the cause, hoping that with awareness many families will soon adopt.
"When parental rights are terminated those kids have nothing and they need a home, and as long as you got a place in your heart and a place in your home, you know, we've opened ours I hope there is more people out there that think about doing it too," said long time Adoptive Parent Gary Launderville.
In Woodbury County, three families went home with a new adopted child, one being two year old Brandon who has been a foster son for over a year.
"We've had him since he was seven months old and we've grown to love him so today we just adopted him. Oh, it feels real good, it feels real good, we appreciate a lot from the judge and all the people who have helped us," said Brandon's new Adoptive Parent Gilbert Downing.
Officials at the Woodbury County Courthouse hope to make this celebration an annual event, to find more local kids a permanent home.
