Fatal Accident Claims The Life Of A Siouxland Man

A fatal accident near Ponca, Nebraska claimed the life of a Siouxland man, and sent another man and three kids to the hospital.

26 year old Matthew Sandness of Ponca, Nebraska was heading west on Highway 12 around 1:30 this afternoon, when he crossed into the eastbound lane, and collided head on with a semi.

The semi then caught fire as it rolled into a nearby ditch.

In that semi was 59 year old Vernon Nelson of Jackson, Nebraska who died on the scene.

Sandness had three kids in the car he was driving.

They were all treated and released.

Sandness was taken to Mercy Medical Center where he is now listed in fair condition.

The accident is still under investigation.
