Should we see Alvin and the Chipmunks or Sherlock Holmes on Christmas day?

It's a question many families were asking earlier in the week, and then the snow came.

It's usually their biggest day of the year. New movies like Sherlock Holmes, the Chipmunks Sequel and Avatar were expected to be the big draws.

But mother nature, had other plans.

"Not like Christmas in the past, but I think for the next several days, we'll see them come in– the ones that didn't get here today, they'll get in this weekend. We'll still have all those movies." Says Promenade Manager Scott Rhoads.

Closing the Promenade theater in downtown Sioux City due to weather wasn't even an option for Manager Scott Rhoads and his crew.

"We are open whether its snow or whatever– we do not close for weather so we definitely knew we were going to be open." Says Rhoads.

For the Mace's, their Christmas tradition was a promise kept.

"I promised them we would and we told them we might not because of the weather and we tried it and we're here so, we live in Iowa and the weather doesn't stop us." Says Jeri Mace of Sioux City.

But, for the Willmott's, last minute sounds more like it.

"My son and daughter in–law are here from Arkansas and it's her 30th birthday as well, so we're bored sitting around the house, supposed to go to Hawarden today for a Christmas and we couldn't get there so we just decided to go to a movie." Says Scott Willmott of Sloan, IA.

Whether it was keeping with tradition or starting a new one– this Christmas, will be one for the record books.
