It might have been the last great snow storm of 2009, but it was a doozy! Now it's time to dig out!
How Siouxlanders are handling the task at hand.
Duane Cory knew it was going to be a long day when he woke up.
Afterall, he owns a business that sells snow blowers, and this storm cleared out his stock.
"It's been busy all day, real crazy. It's a bit overwhelming, but we expected it to be this busy." Says Cory.
When Siouxland was hit by its first major storm of the season in early December, Bernie's Lawn and Garden almost sold out of snow blowers.
This time, things are a little different.
"Three times as much snow I guess. We were busier that one probably, a lot of it now– they can't get here. If they could get here– it would be a lot worse." Says Cory.
But, almost two feet of snow doesn't disappear on its own. It takes time and a lot of patience.
According to Tony Lewis a little planning should be involved too.
"Park on the odd side of the street until the even side gets plowed. Then move over and they come back and plow the other side– while you're parked on the even side. Just gotta grin and bear it and dig ourselves out." Says Lewis.
The city of Sioux City asks residents to park their vehicles off the street during snow removal operations.
Otherwise this happens, your car gets buried!
But whether you're digging your car out from a snow drift or uncovering your driveway, it's going to take Siouxland a long time to dig out from this Christmas blizzard.
"We've been out here about an hour, my brother in law Collin has the snow blower going and he's taking care of a lot of it and we have the rest of the steps. I'm ready to go back south tomorrow and not have snow anymore!"
