Painkiller blamed for 2 mysterious Omaha deaths

Associated Press - February 2, 2010 6:15 PM ET

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Authorities say two people found dead last month in a southwest Omaha apartment overdosed on a prescription painkiller.

Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine said Tuesday that tests performed on 44-year-old Sandra Brown and 36-year-old Robert Bordelon II revealed the presence of fentanyl at toxic levels.

Fentanyl is a powerful painkiller often prescribed for cancer patients and administered through a patch.

Brown and Bordelon were found dead on Jan. 9, and authorties said the 2 of them could have died several days earlier.

Officials said at the time the bodies were found that foul play was not suspected in the deaths.
