Bad Weather Affects Voter Turn Out For Special Election

The weather is being partly blamed for low turnout at Long Lines Family Recreation Center for the Sioux City schools special election. But, it's also because many voters have already cast their ballots.

Five thousand people had already voted trough absentee ballots, making it the best turnout for a Sioux City School District election in 10 years.

"It actually is fairly good for, considered what the weather is today, we've had over 200 folks here vote, a little bit before noon and that's a good sign but we were hoping for a lot more on election day," said Pat Gill, the Woodbury County Auditor.

Voters are deciding whether to re–purpose a tax levy that's already been in place to help maintain existing schools in Sioux City's Community School District.

You can still vote at the Long Lines Family Rec. Center. The polls close at 8 p.m.
