Omaha Students Build Houses In Sioux City Over Spring Break

Some college students from Omaha are taking the R and R out of Spring Break and it's all for a good cause.

Around 14 students from Creighton University have traded in their bathing suits and sun block for tools and paint brushes to help Siouxland Habitat for Humanity. These students came to Sioux City to work on various homes that will be given to families in need by the organization. They worked on tearing down plaster in one home to painting interiors and the students say helping out the less fortunate on your days off is the way to go.

"It's such a great feeling to be able to accomplish so much over spring break rather than just relaxing, not feeling fulfilled after your break," said Kai Eezell.

Every year the students are given this opportunity by their school's Center for Service and Justice. And it allows them to create a bond with those involved.

"Going to different places and meeting new people it seems like you form a new community as opposed to sort of spending your money in other ways that don't seem to be as productive," said Michael Rios.

The students will continue to work on the houses until they return home on Saturday.
