LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Nebraska lawmakers have rejected an attempt to repeal a new law that lets cities raise their local option sales tax rates, as long as they get voter approval. The law gives cities the power to ask voters for an increase to as high as 2%, up from the current 1.5% lid imposed by the state.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Omaha police say a federal, state and local task force is investigating the possibility that the killings of a Creighton University professor and his wife may be linked to the unsolved 2008 stabbing deaths of an 11-year-old boy and his family housekeeper. The boy's parents were colleagues of Doctor Roger Brumback at Creighton's school of medicine.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - A Hastings man has been sentenced to more than five years in prison for helping to deal methamphetamine. Ruben Manzano pleaded guilty in February and federal prosecutors announced his sentence yesterday.
