USD Dental Hygiene Students Help Save Some Cash
Dental hygiene students at the University of South Dakota are trained to do everything a licensed Hygienist does, but as many community members are discovering going to these students can be quite a dental deal.
Students are preparing for the real world, and patient clinics are where they truly get to shine.
" They're super thorough, you have a student who wants to get a good grade so their working really hard so it's a job done right," says patient Christina Roberts.
Since the economy has taken a hit, these students have noticed a boost in business.
Although sitting down with a student takes twice the amount of time as a trip to the dentist, the visit only sets you back 40 bucks, and it gives the students the experience they need.
" No mouth is the same so every person that comes in and teaches us something new," said Dental Hygiene Student Samantha Hohn.
Students take the drivers seat, but there is always a dentist in the building along with instructors, like Carissa Regnerus, ready to step in.
" Just a standard of care just to have a tissue check by a licensed practitioner in case anyone has questions before they leave we wanna make sure we are the last one to look in their mouth."
