A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is in effect for northern and eastern parts of Siouxland. This includes Osceola, Dickinson, O'Brien, Clay, Cherokee, Buena Vista, and Ida counties in Iowa and Lincoln and Turner counties in South Dakota. For most counties north of Sioux City the Advisory will expire at 6 AM, while for most counties east of Sioux City the Advisory will expire at 4 PM. A WINTER STORM WARNING is in effect for Emmet County in Iowa until 6 PM. The threats in these areas will be 1-3" of new snow combined with winds gusting as high as 30 miles per hour...causing blowing and drifting snow. Travel with caution.
Most spots will start off the day with new snow on the roadways, creating very slick conditions. Couple that with strong winds, and just about everyone will see blowing snow. Any new snow will likely fall during the morning hours, and just be flurries at the most.
Our temperatures have been rising through the morning, with locations in northern Siouxland already in the upper teens and even the lower 20s! All of us should see high temperatures in that range by the afternoon.
Mostly cloudy skies today will give way to clear skies tomorrow as a high pressure system moves in. Unfortunately, that means bitterly cold low temperatures tomorrow. Low will be in the single digits below zero. Afternoon sunshine should warm us up nicely though, into the upper teens.
We'll continue the slight warming trend into the weekend, with dry conditions and highs in the upper 20s expected.
Drive safe!
