A Job Fair With A Twist For Soon-To-Be Unemployed Royco Employees

Posted: Updated:

In these tough times, sometimes you have to be creative to land a job. For example, Royco Hotels" manages 9 hotels in the Norfolk area. But an expired contractual agreement has lead to about 30 employees losing their jobs. Even though it can no longer employ those folks, the company is helping them find a job.

"Royco" held a "Reverse Job Fair" this morning at the Lifelong Learning Center on the Northeast Community College Campus. Different from a regular job fair, this one had the employment candidates at the booths and the business representatives traveling from table to table. This gave prospective hires a chance to network with as many sources as possible.

A human resources function next door brought even more traffic into the fair.

Shelly Hanzlik, a laid off Royco employee, said "I talked to about probably 6 or 7 that stopped by and said 'Hi' and I could give them my resume and find out what they were looking for so it felt really good."

The fair was the brain child of Royco Hotels, the State of Nebraska Workforce Development and the Norfolk Area Chamber Of Commerce President Dennis Houston.
