Red Cross Opens Additional Shelters To Aid Flood Victims

The Heartland Regional Grouping of the American Red Cross had another busy weekend opening shelters across Nebraska to aid flood victims. Shelters were opened in Thurston and Washington County in Nebraska and Fremont County in Iowa. In addition to opening shelters this weekend, Red Cross volunteers canteened refreshments to 1,590 community volunteers who were sandbagging in Omaha, Council Bluffs and Plattsmouth.

Last night the Loess Hills Chapter opened a shelter to support Fremont County residents at Sidney High School, 2754 Knox Road in Sindey, Iowa. Yesterday the Northeast Nebraska Chapter also opened a shelter in Thurston County at the Omaha Nation Public School at 100 Main Street in Macy, NE. There is also a shelter at Fort Calhoun High School, 1506 Lincoln Street, to serve Washington County. Shelters remain on standby in: Cass, Sarpy, Dixon, Cedar, Thurston, and Pottawattamie counties.
