Senator Charles Grassley meet with the U.S. Postmaster General today to discuss the closing of several Iowa post offices.
The Postmaster General requested the meeting after receiving a letter from Grassley about the inappropriate behavior and attitude displayed at recent public meetings concerning closure of several post offices in Iowa as well as the public meeting held in Sioux City regarding the proposed consolidation of the mail processing facility to Sioux Falls, S.D. In the meeting today, the Postmaster General provided Grassley with key data from the Postal Service study on the consolidation of the Originating and Destinating Operations in Sioux City and Sioux Falls.
After the meeting, Grassley said, "Iowans across the state are rightfully upset with the lack of transparency the Postal Service has displayed in its efforts to potentially close postal facilities across the state. The Postmaster General's gesture in providing data from the study that proposed to consolidate the Sioux City Mail Processing Facility to Sioux Fall, S.D. was a positive step. I appreciate the opportunity to speak with the Postmaster General and get answers to some of the concerns in my letter last month. I look forward to an ongoing dialogue between the Postmaster General and the Iowa congressional delegation."
