With all this flooding, safety is a major concern. And it's no different when it comes to patrolling the levees. Law enforcement officials say there is no reason people should be on them.

People patrolling the levees in South Sioux City had more than just the swollen Missouri River to worry about Thursday morning.

Two people were arrested after being caught near the levee. And law enforcement can't stress enough the importance of staying off those levees.

"It's more than just not wanting you to trespass. There is a lot of property and possibly even some lives at stake here," said Sheriff Chris Kleinberg, of Dakota County.

"If somebody goes on the levee...then we need to go on...and there again it can be dangerous," said Deputy Mike Kreegar.

Not only is it dangerous but by waking on it vital parts of the levee can be damaged.

"It's an estimated $1.7 million levee that's protecting a lot of property and there are things on the levee like plastic coverings that can't be damaged.. So it doesn't effect the integrity," said Sheriff Kleinberg.

The levee is constantly being patrolled by law enforcement and the National Guard. It will stay that way until flood waters are no longer a threat.
