Hello Siouxland! Hollie Hojek here, fellow mid-westerner, joining the KCAU TV news team. I grew up right outside Chicago, Illinois. I have an amazing mom, awesome dad and two beautiful sisters back home! Plus three dogs.
This isn't my first time living in Iowa though. I made my first trip to Iowa when I attended the University of Iowa freshman year. I headed back home to finish my degree in Broadcast Journalism at Columbia College Chicago.
I took a ton of broadcasting classes, not only in television but radio too. I interned and later worked at WUSN-FM in Chicago, also known as "America's Country Radio Station." Huge fan of country music.
After graduating in May 2010, I started a six month broadcast writing internship at WGN TV in Chicago. Which is also channel 9! The experience really helped me feel comfortable in a face paced, newsroom setting.
Right before moving here, I wrote for two newspapers, one being the Chicago Tribune. I had my first story in print in February 2010. (I have the article in a picture frame.)
I'm happy to say Sioux City feels like home and I'm excited to be a part of the KCAU TV family!
