Another section of I-29 is closed near blencoe. But today's closure is part of an effort to avoid a major shut down in the future.

The Iowa Department of Transportation is working along the interstate between mile marker 105 and 112. Crews are building a flood barrier in order to stop water from reaching the road. But some water is already reaching the wall.

"Some of the bags are already sitting in some water...about an inch deep and then the shoulder where the guys are working it's about 3 feet. So there is water on the edge of the shoulder," said Jon Allen, highway maintenance supervisor.

So for now, people must take the Blencoe exit through Onawa to get back on the interstate. The DOT is expecting to completely re-open the road by Monday.
