There's no doubt flood assistance is needed in many parts of the Siouxland area, but that's exactly why FEMA representatives have been busy making their rounds and taking information.
They're calling it a "Preliminary Damage Assessment." FEMA Representatives are touring the hardest hit areas of 10 South Dakota counties and one of those areas is RIV–R–LAND Estates in Union county.
"Right now at Riverland, we're looking at a road ending in water!" said Jeannie Mooney, a FEMA Public Information Officer.
All the information FEMA gathers on property damage will go straight to the Governor's desk and then hopefully back to homeowners in the form of additional funding.
"Folks should be hopeful that we're here and we're assessing the damage. It's the first step to determine eligibility for individual assistance." Mooney said.
And the next step in moving forward.
