The flood has left the Woodbury County Emergency Management team drowning in paper work. But wading through that paperwork is critical to getting millions of dollars to help with all the costs.

Around 4,000 decisions were made by county officials during the flood and every single one has been documented so the county can get reimbursed by the federal government.

In total the emergency management team has 15 binders filled with detailed paper work that show how money was spent preparing and recovering from the flood.  Even pictures have been compiled in electronic versions of the paper work. This will help the county get reimbursed by the federal government for 85% of flood costs.

"This paperwork is very important to being able to keep those dollars because sometimes if you can't validate that you actually had the reason to make the decision, FEMA can come back at some point down the road and ask you to reimburse the federal government for those dollars," said Gary Brown, the Woodbury County Emergency Management Director.

It has taken about 4 people to gather all the information over the last 7 weeks and they're hoping to be done by Friday to concentrate more on flood relief.
