Iowa has been awarded 1.5 million dollars by the US Department of Labor.
More than half of that will go to provide job training for those who were laid off when John Morrell closed it's doors more than a year ago.
The John Morrell Transition Center will be receiving 815 thousand dollars, which will be the second installment of their funding.
The money will keep jobs for people employed at the center, as well as provide hope for former workers in search of new jobs.
"Everyone has a big smile on their face because we love what we're doing, we love who we're working for and this just means more days that we can continue to have positive outcomes for people and their families," tells Patricia Johnson, Director of the Center.
For the past year the Center has provided services to the affected workers.
This funding will now prolong the life of the center even longer and continue to provide services to the community.
"So we'll be able to continue with classes and ESL Construction and supported services that happen everyday here for the participants," says Johnson.
