Downtown For The Holidays
Holiday Lighted Parade kicks off the season in Downtown Sioux City!
Start off your holiday season downtown this year as Downtown Sioux City welcomes you with an evening full of activities for the entire family. "Downtown for the Holidays" is scheduled for Monday, November 21st.
The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 231 presents the 2011 Holiday Lighted Parade that will start at 6:15 on 4th and Iowa Streets and jingle its way down 4th Street. Businesses, organizations and services groups are encouraged to participate in the parade. There is no cost to enter and your float may win a cash prize for the best in its class. There will be 2 classes, commercial and non commercial. 1st Prize $150.00, 2nd Prize $100.00 and 3rd Prize $50.00 will be awarded in each class. To participate, please call (712) 252-0014. Registration deadline is Monday, November 14.
In anticipation for Santa's welcome, we will fill the downtown with the sounds of Christmas on 4th and Nebraska Streets (The Sioux City Public Museum) where, with your help, Santa will light up the holiday tree. By 7:00 p.m. Santa will be anxious to make his way to Santa's House at 3rd and Pierce Street (Art Center's Learning Annex) where children can present him with their wish list and warm up with some hot chocolate and cookies.
Don't forget to stop by the Terra Centre for the opening night of the Festival of Trees with the Grace United Methodist Church's Solid Brass Bell Choir, followed by Ballet Sioux and much more. Proceeds from the 2011 tree auction will benefit S.T.A.R.S., Inc. (Special Troopers Adaptive Riding School).
But wait…the magic doesn't end there. At 7:15 Santa will help us light up the night sky with fireworks for one and all over the Floyd bridge!
A special thank you to our presenting sponsor, The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 231 for helping make the parade possible with the volunteers from Siouxland Mental Health and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Siouxland; to MRHD (Missouri River Historical Development) for their support of the fireworks display; and to Delta Air Lines, Thompson Electric, Midwest Construction Rental and the Sioux City Public Museum for their involvement with the holiday tree!
Mark your calendars to join us in Downtown Sioux City on Monday, November 21st for the official opening of the holiday season. For additional information, please log on at www.downtownsiouxcity.com or call (712) 252-0014.
