It's been 39 years today since abortion became legal in the United States and that's exactly why many took to the streets this afternoon.
About 100 people including Sioux City Bishop R. Walker Nickless took part in a march against abortion on Gordon Dr.
Protestors carried signs and prayed along the way led by the Sioux City chapter of the pro–life youth organization Teen Defenders. This is just one of many things they do to make sure women understand that there are better options out there other than abortion.
"We do marches like this, we go to youth rallies, we help women get the help they need. Get a job, get their feet on the floor, get them clothes, food, money, anything they need," said Monica Bertrand, the director of the Sioux City chapter of the Teen Defenders.
This was the first Siouxland "March for Life" but the organization has big plans to make it a long–time tradition.
