Habitat For Humanity Home In Onawa In Need Of Family

Posted: Updated:

A Habitat for Humanity home in Onawa is on its way to being finished, but it has no one to occupy it!

The house was intended to be the home of an Onawa woman, but she found a job nearby and no longer needed the home. So, officials in Onawa and with Siouxland Habitat for Humanity are looking for somebody to move in.

The home could be finished by the end of the summer.

Family Qualifications:

- Currently live or work in Siouxland

- Willing to partner with Siouxland Habitat in completing "sweat equity" hours and participating in media coverage

- Live in "substandard" conditions

- Meet the current year's income requirements as set by HUD

Onawa City Administrator Larry Burks said, "Whenever you can help someone who needs help that's always a good thing. But what I like about it is, those folks also help themselves. So it's not a blank check. It's an investment in our community as well."

That's because in order to apply, you must also be able to provide volunteer time either by yourself or someone you know to the Habitat for Humanity effort.

If you'd like to apply, you can call the Siouxland Habitat For Humanity at (712) 255 - 6244.
