In a little over two months, American Airlines will be replacing Delta Airlines at Sioux Gateway Airport, and the ground crew will be replaced as well.
Regional Elite Airline Services currently handles the ground work for Delta passengers, but starting April 3rd, Trego-Dugan Aviation will take over.
"I think it's a pretty basic, business transition. You know, somebody new comes in and takes over. Hopefully some of those employees will apply to the new company and stay here," said Barbara Sloniker from the Siouxland Chamber of Commerce.
Under Delta's contract there are currently five full-time and five part-time employees at the airport. As for the incoming ground grew with Trego-Dugan.
"I think were running about nine employees. They're going to be the folks that check you in at the ticket counter... tag your bags, and then we're going to have folks that will essentially do what we call ramp work," said Paige Teel, from Business Development at American Airlines.
Supervising and managerial positions will also be available. And the people who work for the current ground crew will be able to apply to work with the new team.
"I would think that the new company coming in would like to hire experienced people," said Teel.
The ground crew company said airline experience is a plus, but not required.
