Rhoads Likes Recruiting Class

Posted: Updated:

 AMES, Iowa (AP) _

Junior college transfer Cliff Stokes brings a
quality that Iowa State coach Paul Rhoads sees as essential in
recruiting defensive backs.
At 6-feet and 180 pounds, Stokes has the size to take on the
tall receivers the Cyclones face in the Big 12 Conference. Rhoads
says height was the key element he sought in the five defensive
backs who are among 21 recruits who signed with Iowa State on
Wednesday.
Four of the five new DBs are at least 6 feet tall, while the
other is 5-10. Iowa State also signed five defensive linemen and
place-kicker Cole Netten, who'll compete for that job immediately.
Iowa State's class is generally ranked near the bottom of the
Big 12, but Rhoads says he doesn't care. He says the players who
signed are good fits.
