A couple weeks ago, the Education Association presented it's proposal to the Sioux City School Board regarding a wage increase. Tonight it was the district's turn to respond. The education association is asking for a three percent increase in wages to compete with rising insurance prices. The Sioux city Community School District proposed their counter offer, which is a zero percent salary increase and no additional benefit increases. But Dr. Paul Gausman says this is just the "beginning" of the discussion process.

"Certainly we know that the great work done in this district is done in part with high quality educators and we will work together and we'll come up with a position that we can all agree upon," said Gausman.

Gausman says over the next couple months the groups will hold closed-meetings to reach a middle ground some time in April.
