The Sioux City City Council will vote Monday on lowering red light camera fines to $100.

And the Mayor is confident it will pass. Mayor Bob Scott says he thinks every council member will vote for the decreased fine.

This comes after the state of Iowa made its first step to ban traffic cameras of all kinds with a vote in the House yesterday.

But the Mayor says the issues are separate.

Mayor Bob Scott said, "This is not some reaction to what State legislators are doing. This has been in the works now since I got sworn in and even in fact, a little bit ahead of time."

If passed on Monday, the new fines will be effective in about a month to 45 days.

However, if you would like to contest your citation after that, the $95 court fee will be added. If still found guilty, your fee would jump back to $195, which is what it is now.
