A Piece of Morningside Avenue is Looking to Be Filled

Posted: Updated:

Where once stood a middle school, has sat empty for years. Now the city of Sioux City wants to fill that vacant lot with homes and businesses.

While this 144,227 square foot lot used to be owned by the Sioux City Community School District, the city actually acquired it through a trade agreement, by giving up some of Spalding Park for a soon-to-be school.

SC City Manager, Paul Eckert, says, "We partner up on a lot of different things, the school and the city. It's a very effective partnership and taxpayers really benefit as a result of our collaboration."

The city is currently accepting proposals from qualified developers, but that deadline is March 5th.

The lot should be able to hold approximately 15-20 residential units and perhaps a few small businesses.

If interested, contact Jeff Hanson, the Community Development Operations Manager at 712-279-6103.
