When you think of dodgeball it probably takes you back to your elementary school days, but in Le Mars grown–ups are getting in on the fun.

Thursday night in Le Mars means one thing: Dodgeball time!  But before you play you must remember your 5 d's.  They are dodge, dip, duck, dive, and dodge!

If you're older you probably haven't played dodgeball in a while.  It's a pretty simple game.  You try and peg people on the other team.

About 30 people play on Thursday night's at the YMCA in Le Mars.  Allie Freking started the adult league.

"It was always that sports back in school, that was so fun, and kind of laid back, and it is competitive, but it's not so competitive that people will get in fights, or anything like that, it's more fun," said Freking.

Dodging balls can wear you out.  So there is some strategy involved.

"It seems difficult, but they're nice soft balls, so they don't hurt.  It's really not difficult, you just have to know how to dodge, and throw low," said Ashley Swenson, from Le Mars, IA.

The players say they get a pretty good work out too, especially if they're the lone remaining player on their team.

Right now 6 teams are in the league, but everybody involved hopes for more next winter.

"It's a ton of fun, we're gonna try and recruit more teams next year, and make it a bigger sport, and hopefully we can play for a long time.  It'll be a lot of fun," said Andy Majers, from Le Mars, IA.

If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball, and if you can dodge a ball, well then you might want to join the league in Le Mars.
