It wasn't about raising money, the color "pink" or even about finding a cure. Plain and simple, it was about education. Because when you hear the terms: lump, therapy, reconstruction mastectomy, you probably think breast cancer.
And while today's first ever Susan G. Komen Breast Health Symposium, full of forums, discussion, demonstrations and tips, had a lot to do with the disease, it wasn't only for patients.
Angela Haggin who traveled from Kingsley, IA to attend the event, says, "I came to be, perhaps a patient resource. I currently work in a family practice office and every little piece of information about anything can be helpful to anyone going through this."
It was also geared towards educators, family members, researchers and health care providers like Angela, who says she's taking what she learned today to better help those around her.
Over 100 people attended today's event. Stay tuned to Channel 9 Eyewitness News for more on this symposium, to be aired during our Focus For the Cure Series.
