When actions resumes at the Iowa and Nebraska State Wrestling Championships metro wrestlers will look to keep gold medal hopes alive.
In Des Moines, SC East 152 pounder Ethan Lara advanced with a 4-0 first round win. He'll face a WDM Valley wrestler in the 3A quarterfinals. Teammate Tyler McWilliams also advanced at 126 and Gage Martin of SC North is set for a quarterfinal at 160 after winning his opening round bout.
At the Nebraska meet underway in Omaha, South Sioux City senior Derek Geddings is still in the running for a second straight title. Geddings (31-1) at 195 pounds picked up a 17-3 first round win on Thursday before pinning his second round opponent in 1:30. Geddings ranks as one of just 3 Cardinals to ever win a state title and would be the schools first to win twice.
