How does an 8% raise sound? That's what the faculty at Western Iowa Tech Community College are asking for.

Recently the educators association at Western Iowa Tech presented some new changes they would like to see in their contracts.

Today WIT's President Terry Murrell presented to them what the administration is willing to offer. The biggest changes the teachers asked for were an 8 1/2% raise in their salaries and more health insurance benefits. Murrell says at this time they're not offering a raise in salaries because it's still unknown how much money the school will get from the legislature this year.

Murrell says, "We feel like we have a hard time committing a lot this early in the process so we usually start with zero. And then we're looking at making the changes to the health insurance that we mentioned so that the health insurance that the faculty has will closely resemble the health insurance that the rest of the college employees have."

Murrell also says the school might have to wait until April to find out how much money it will get from the legislature.

On March 6th the school administration will begin negotiations with the educators association by making small changes in what Murrell calls some of the language in the contracts.
