Students Compete During Jazz Festival At WITCC

Posted: Updated:

Singers, bands and all that jazz. That's what took over the Sioux City campus of Western Iowa Tech today when schools from around the Siouxland area faced off in a jazz competition.

Today was the first day of the college's annual Lewis and Clark Jazz Festival. About 750 students participated and were judged in two categories, jazz band and vocal jazz. At the end of each performance the judges critiqued them and the feedback helped make this more of an educational event.

"We have selected a number of outstanding judges to help the students while they're performing on stage as well as giving them written comments so they can work after they're done with the competition, they can work with their directors."

The competition will continue tomorrow at the college's Black Box Theater and Cargill Auditorium.
