An incredible forty thousand pounds of food was delivered to the Food Bank of Siouxland today. The arrival of this order signals a new partnership between Western Iowa Tech and the Food Bank. The cooperation is mutually beneficial as students in the Truck Drivers Training Program are gaining experience while the Food Bank saves on costs. The Food Bank has seen an increase in demand that requires this massive delivery.
Linda Scheid, the Director at the Food Bank, acknowledges that the economy is still bouncing back. "I know they talk about how the economy is better, but the last piece is always the job piece. And even then if you have a job, does that job provide enough income to completely support all of your needs?"
The increasing cost of living including higher fuel prices are responsible for the greater food need. The food will be distributed to one hundred and twenty-five agencies in eleven local counties.
