Norfolk Shooting Suspect Makes First Appearance In Court

The man accused of shooting a woman in Norfolk made his first appearance in Madison County Court yesterday. 

Carlos Arevalo-Martinez, 34, is charged with first-degree assault and use of a firearm to commit a felony. He's suspected of shooting  Edna Gutierrez, 33, in the head last week. She is still hospitalized in Omaha.

In court Tuesday, Judge Krepela appointed Norfolk attorney Doug Stratton to represent Arevalo-Martinez, and bond remains $1 million.

 Arevalo-Martinez's next court appearance was set for Tuesday afternoon, February 28th at 1 p.m.
