Susan G. Komen Siouxland's Race for the Cure is coming up May 13th – Mothers Day.
That day, thousands of people will be running or walking for the person in their life who's been touched by breast cancer.
Gayle Gregg says she never had to go through her battle with breast cancer alone and she credits her "team" for helping her become a survivor.
Co–workers often become friends... or like family, even. In Gayle's case, they're also her support system.
"I can talk about the breast cancer... when I talk about my friends I get choked up," says Gayle.
Just a few months ago, Gayle faced her battle with breast cancer – with the help of her team of supporters by her side.
Now this group from various department at St. Luke's hospital will rally together again, this time to support Gayle and hundreds of local breast cancer survivors.
They call themselves the "Double G's". And they'll be walking and running as a team in the Susan G. Komen Siouxland Race for the Cure this May.
"My friends have been walking with me for the past four months, actually, so it seems natural," said Gayle.
"She's just a people person – her spirit touches so many people and I think that way she faced her disease with a positive attitude, with faith and by rallying family and friends... she's just filled with so much joy," says co-worker Christie Finnegan.
And on race day, joined by her friends and thousands of other supporters, Gayle will walk as a survivor... With high hopes for a future without breast cancer.
"I'm looking forward to none of my girlfriends having to tell me they have breast cancer. I'm looking forward to a cure...." says Gayle.
You can sign up as an individual to walk or run in the Race for the Cure, but if you have a group of friends, get them together so you can help each other. The deadline to form a team or join and existing one is May 4th.
