This afternoon a group of Sioux City firefighters got a lesson in giving birth.
Nurses from Mercy Medical Center gave two sessions on "Birth Training" at Fire Station number three.
Firefighters are required to learn the basics of delivering a baby, and it is not uncommon for them to have to do so when they're called onto the scene.
Lieutenant Jack Burgers says, "The first experience I probably had just a couple years on the job, and I got to the scene and it went real fast, it was her fourth child and it happened real quick there were no complications"
Lieutenant Burgers has been on the job for 30 years, and in that time he has delivered three babies.
He says you just go into a mode, and you get it done.
All three deliveries were quick and came with no complications. But, that is not always the case, which is why the fire department has these refresher courses regularly.
