The Marcus Police Dept., Cherokee Co. Sheriff's Office, Iowa State Fire Marshall, and the Marcus Fire Department are investigating four fires in Marcus.

The first fire was in the 300 block of Ames Ave and was reported approximately 12:45am on Tuesday August 21st. The second fire was reported approximately 3:55am on the same day and occurred in the 100 block of East Fenton St.

The first fire only did minor damage to the house and the second fire did significant damage to the house.

Another arson attempt was discovered later that morning in the 300 block of Holmes St.; however the structure never caught on fire.

On Friday morning August 24 another attempted arson was discovered in the 400 block of North Ash St. We are not sure at this point as to when this fire was started as it had extinguished itself and only minor damage to the house was done.

There were also four vehicles that had a tire slashed on the same night as the first fires. At this point we do not know if the criminal mischief to the tires and the fires are connected.

If anyone has any information about these fires please make contact with the Cherokee County Law Enforcement Communications at 712-225-6728.
